Hey, Ellery! Very cool stuff there -- but it has better include pets for hunters! Otherwise what good is it? :>

I can see this definitely being a market just waiting to be tapped.

"Diamonds aren’t the traditional wedding ring because they’re prettier than other rings. It’s because they’re also really expensive, and they make good tokens of tribute."

No, diamonds only became traditional in the last century because they were marketed to be. Read up on the DeBeers company history. Prior to that, the stone variety varied widely.

So, with the right amount of marketing, and enough time, online weddings in games will be traditional, and the 'stand up' type will be a memory. :) Sounds like a heck of a lot more fun!

Psychic indeed. It must be a subconscious meme (Brenlo and I have been talking events as of late...).

Simu had so much stuff for DIY that the paid weddings weren't necessary. They definitely were a luxury item. I don't believe anyone paid $10k while I was there, though it wasn't far-fetched for folks to offer us substantially more than the package price if we'd throw in a little something extra.

Bruce and I were just talking about this kind of thing today, in fact. Are you getting psychic?!

I've heard anecdotes that on some of <a href="http://www.play.net/" rel="nofollow">Simutronic</a>'s text games people paid in excess of $10,000 for events like weddings. I find it mind-boggling, but some people are willing to spend a lot in a world they have grown to care about. In some ways, this is perhaps one of the largest complements players could pay your game. I think the trick is to make sure that you don't "require" this. Make wedding rings available for in-game cash so that people who don't want to pay in dollars can still "get married", even if it's just in a pretty room with a few of their friends instead of at a lavish GM-attended party with all the multi-thousand dollar trimmings.
