I've got to say - STO's ground combat mechanics work much better in PVP than in PVE. Players use the dive/roll moves to get behind cover and recharge shields, and the PVP maps are all in confined ship or station settings that encourages this. Results in some great firefights with both teams exchanging shots down a corridor and ducking back until one of the klingons charges into the enemy fire, bat'leth swinging!

Comming out for the xbox has nothing to do with being zoned or instanced. One of the pillars of the design was to have one shard, unlike WoW. It took CCP YEARS to get the software and hardware to fully support Jita, the most populated system in the game. Can you imagine the entire playerbase trying to get to an uninstanced Sol? Zoning and instancing allows a much smoother load balancing across hardware. Also they wanted to preserve the feel of being somewhat alone such as that in the series.

xbox 360 made this game into a zoned, instaced, arcady pile of rubbish. MMO on an xbox? Please. How are they going to type in chat, or use one of the hundreds of powers.

Respec's will also be available via in game currency, it's not exclusive to c-store. If you want to spend your c-store currency on respecs, you can. Take information with a grain of salt, things change all the time.

I just wish the ground combat had fewer encounters, with tougher enemies. As it is, it's easy to just mindlessly plow into the next pack, use a skill or two and phaser everything to death. Which is fine, I like phasers, but it just feels so tedious when you check the minimap and see 6 more packs waiting on this floor alone.

I immediately recognized space combat to be very much like in the SFC series, too. This won me over. Despite the bugs and the many other issues the game has. Ground combat is still not exciting in PvP, but there it makes sense and is working, but in PvE it is mostly annoying and boring.

I just read announcement that "Respecs" will be sold over the C-Store. If respeccing is going to cost me money everytime, how bout providing a proper ingame or web-based char planner yourself, Cryptic? Better skill descriptions would also be nice, right now which science ability gets improved through which skill is largely left to player tested community work.

I think the SFC based space combat is great - but can it be the core of a MMO? I think it might work with another business model, I am not sure that many people will go on paying a subscription to shoot some stuff in space now and then.

I was thinking the last time I played that the blue ribbons in sector space should make you go faster. It takes far too long to travel long distances, especially when all you have to look at on the way there is generic and mostly featureless..

I only picked up one fire extinguisher for myself, but then when I was done with the mission, I handed it off to one of my bridge officers because I couldn't figure out how to get rid of it. I eventually figured out that I could demolish it, when that officer was using it in combat every time it was off cooldown. Now I kinda regret doing that, because I have no way to put out grenade fires that are blocking my path.

I thought STO had awesome combat, and I'd probably keep subscribing, except that I got bored of shooting Klingons (and their affiliate races) before I made it to Commander rank. If there were some other things to do in the game that don't involve shooting Klingons, I'd love to keep playing. But as it is... "Klingon squadrons destroyed: 0/4" was really starting to get monotonous.
